12 Month Fixed term Contract

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our dedicated team in Critical Care. Our team consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors, and over 100 nurses and AHPs in our two Critical Care units.

About the units

St Helier ICU: 13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care.

Annual admissions: 1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery.

We are proud of our reputation for delivering safe and effective care and providing high quality education. We contribute to a number of national audits, including ICNARC, NELA, and PQIP. Our current SMR is 0.81. Since 2020, we have been short-listed twice for the national Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) award, we have had several peer-reviewed publications, and have presented at national and international conferences.

Main duties of the job

  • THE POST
  • EpsomandSt.Helierbasedduties:Fixedterm6to12monthsinCriticalCaredepartment (ICU and HDU) cross site (Epsom and St. Helier)
  • The main aim of the post is to enable the post holder to recognise potentially life-threatening situations and equip them with the knowledge and skills to initiate immediate resuscitative measures. It will also train them in the appropriate use and interpretation of cardio-pulmonary monitoring.Trainingwillbecompetency-based,accordingtotherecommendationsoftheInter- Collegiate Board for training in Intensive Care Medicine and continuous assessment and 360 degreeappraisalswillalsobeemployed. Therewillberegularconsultant-ledteachingsessions
  • The successful candidate will be able to develop research and education skills.
  • The senior clinical fellow will be supported at all times by the Consultants and also involves supervisingjuniorfellows.Aspertheexperienceandsenioritytherotaslotwillbeallocatedeitheron the senior tier or junior tier

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • On- call
  • The post has night on-call commitment based on a 1:8 rota, which will be based at St Helier Hospital,coveringICU andHDU.Therewillbe2juniordoctorseverynight.Indaytimetherewill be minimum 4 junior doctors in the unit. The unit is always covered by a consultant intensivist, whois on-sitefrom 8AMto9PMand thenon-call (non-resident).CurrentlyEpsom unitcoveris only day time (8AM to 6PM) by critical care juniors. Night cover at Epsom will be provided by Anaeasthetic team
  • There is a very close link between critical care unit and anaesthetic department. The on call criticalcarejuniordoctorandanaestheticjuniordoctorareexpectedtoworkasateam andhelp out each other as required.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with GMC- This is a must have requirement for the post
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Post Graduate Qualification

Experience

  • Minimum 2 year experience in Emergency medicine/General Medicine or one of branches/Anaesthesia/ Criti cal Care/Surgery in St1/2 level
  • Provider in ATLS, APLS, ALS or similar
  • No more than 6 months employment gap immediately before the application closing date

  • Reliable work record UK citizen or right to work in UK - This is must have requirement for the post
