Overview

Consultant Rota: The ICU consultants work 1 in 9-person rota on an annualised job plan. The 9-week rota typically includes: 7 days as the consultant of the week in St Helier ICU (08:00-18:00 daily, with overnight on-call at weekends), 5 days in Epsom HDU (08:00-18:00), and 5 second on-call shifts in St Helier ICU (08:00-21:00 on site, 21:00-08:00 on-call from home within 30 minutes travel).

Responsibilities

10 PA contract: 8.3 DCCs (outlined above); 1.7 SPAs (including revalidation, educational supervision, and clinical governance). Contribute to weekly Morbidity and Mortality meetings, monthly ICU Consultant and Clinical Governance meetings, and divisional Quality and Audit meetings. Assist with teaching programmes, including bedside echocardiography and simulation training.

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.

Team and role details

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our dedicated team in Critical Care, for six months. Our team consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors, and over 100 nurses and AHPs in our two Critical Care units.

About the units

St Helier ICU: 13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care. Epsom HDU: 6-8 level 2 beds. Annual admissions: 1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery.

We support all general specialties and admit patients from regional Renal, Haematology, and Oncology units. Our in-reach service helps our hospitals achieve the trust's mission statement of "delivering outstanding care every day". We are part of the South West London Adult Critical Care network (SWLACC).

For new entrants into the NHS, your pay under the Agenda for Change or Medical & Dental Pay Bands will normally be set at the minimum of the pay band as advertised.
