Epsilon Systems has an opening for a SubSafe Technical Writer III in the Modernization and Engineering division located in Portsmouth, VA. The role reports directly to the Technical Engineer and focuses on developing technical instructions, QA workbooks, work packages, test and inspection plans, and Technical Work Documents (TWDs) for government and commercial contracts, particularly in Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical work.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily technical support to the management team.
- Assist in developing written procedures for Safety, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Trades work.
- Develop safety, quality control, and inspection procedures for production work packages.
- Define test standards and specify test equipment for test and inspection plans and TWDs.
- Collaborate with customer QA/Safety representatives to establish inspection and acceptance criteria.
- Review QA/Safety control requirements and contractually required documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Approve Technical Work Documents and Condition Reports to ensure compliance with SUBSAFE, DSS, and Level 1 boundaries and NAVSEA specifications.
- Recommend and implement changes to Technical Work Documents and internal processes to simplify user communication and increase first‑time success.
- Resolve SUBSAFE, DSS/SOC, and Level 1 issues and advise Production and Program management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 15+ years of waterfront technical engineering experience (or 20 years of active Navy service supporting Non‑SUBSAFE, Level I, SUBSAFE, Scope of Certification, or Fly‑By‑Wire programs).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Base access: Must be able to obtain and maintain access to U.S. military bases and shipyards.
- Background training in Technical Engineering, Non‑SUBSAFE, SUBSAFE, Scope of Certification, and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work.
