Epsilon Systems has a current opening for a full-time EH&S Tank Cleaner in Portsmouth, VA for the SRS-ATL Division.
Position Summary
Performs bilge maintenance, pumping, cleaning and preparation for gas free certification of tanks, voids, cofferdams, inaccessible areas, bilges and other compartments located on U.S. Navy vessels. Assists with conducting pumping operations, closing checkpoints, cleaning and setup/breakdown of all equipment associated with Bilge Maintenance and Tank Cleaning operations. Provides various services to the customer in regard to cleanliness, gas free certification and pumping operations.
Responsibilities
- Strictly adheres to corporate, federal, state and local safety/OSHA regulations.
- Ensures that all Epsilon Systems MRG Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) are worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded.
- Ensures all tools listed on the “Required Tools List” are available for use within two weeks of your employment.
- Returns tools/equipment to proper location and reports any lost, missing, stolen or damaged items to the Facilities Senior Specialist in accordance with Process Instruction.
- Ensures that all requirements of the Epsilon Systems MRG Quality Assurance Manual are followed.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices; turns off machines when not in use, disposes of waste properly, sweeps the area, etc.
- Performs bilge maintenance cleaning/pumping operations, general pumping operations, tank/void cleaning, general housekeeping, gas free certification preparation and pumping.
- Performs equipment troubleshooting to diagnose problems and report to the Specialist or Foreman.
- Follows and executes work packages, specification items or system alterations in accordance with directives.
Tank Cleaner I Requirements
- High school diploma/GED.
- 1-3 years’ on-site experience.
- Ability to follow basic functions to include hose setups, air connections, tank/void cleaning and bilge cleaning/pumping.
- Must be able to climb ladder wells, enter tanks/voids and other confined spaces and take direction from superiors.
- Must be able to traverse multiple classes of U.S. Navy warships.
- Must be able to be tank/void watch and fire watch qualified within first 2 weeks of employment.
- Able to obtain access to military installations and private shipyards.
- Completed the initial 24-hour training for Competent Persons by utilizing a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Certified Marine Chemist or NFPA Instructor.
- 2 years waterfront environmental, health and safety experience for NAVSEA contract work.
- Knowledge of and fully understand Environmental, Health and Safety and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work.
- Knowledgeable in shipyard, maritime, and commercial work practices, environmental, health and safety, and contracting methods.
- Knowledge of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment, NAVSEA Standard Items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), NAVSHIPS Tech Manuals (NSTM), and DOD Standards.
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of workplace environmental, health and safety.
- Performs accident investigations to help determine Root Cause and Corrective Actions.
- Ability to read, write, speak and clearly communicate in English.
- Maintains all required environmental records and documentation at the worksite.
- Evaluates situations or makes determinations when a worker has refused to work on the grounds that danger or potential harm exists.
- Verifies availability and monitors use and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Works with customer environmental, health and safety representatives to coordinate inspection and acceptance activities.
- Reviews environmental, health and safety control requirements with customer representative to assure compliance with requirements.
- Performs Job Safety Analysis/Job Hazard Analysis, and conducts and turns in a record of Tool Box Talks (TBTs).
- Able to obtain and maintain access to US military and/or government installations.
Physical Requirements
Involves reaching with arms, stretching, crawling, heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery in hot or cold conditions.
