This is a Senior Bookkeeper position for someone who wants more than routine processing. You’ll be the person who keeps standards high across a portfolio, ensures files are genuinely accounts-ready, and supports the wider team with quality control and structure.
You’ll join a well-established, cloud-led accountancy practice with a professional, collaborative culture. The expectation is simple: accurate double entry, strong balance sheet control, confident VAT delivery, and clear client communication. You’ll take responsibility for a portfolio of clients and act as the go-to for bookkeeping quality and delivery. You’ll also review work completed by juniors and support their development, ensuring consistency across files and deadlines.
Key responsibilities:- Owning bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients using cloud accounting software
- Ensuring accurate double entry, reconciliations, and clean ledgers to trial balance
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, including checks, corrections, and query resolution
- Maintaining strong balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts (VAT, debtors, creditors, payroll where applicable)
- Reviewing junior bookkeeping work, providing feedback, and ensuring files are accounts-ready
- Being a key point of contact for clients: records, queries, deadlines, and process improvements
- Liaising with HMRC where required and supporting registrations/compliance administration
- Identifying recurring issues and improving client bookkeeping processes to reduce errors and rework
- Supporting the accounts team with clean handovers and supporting schedules
- Strong practice-based or multi-client bookkeeping experience
- Confident producing accurate records through to trial balance and maintaining balance sheet integrity
- Solid VAT knowledge and the confidence to sense-check and correct
- Strong understanding of double entry and reconciliations
- Comfortable reviewing others’ work and raising standards
- Professional client communication skills and a calm, organised approach to deadlines
- Management accounts exposure
- Payroll journals/pensions experience
- Experience across multiple cloud platforms and process improvement
