RoleSummary
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Engineering Technician βMechanical to support the design, development, assembly, testing, andvalidation of innovative products and technologies. Working closely withmechanical, electronics, electro-magnetic, and manufacturing engineers, youwill play a key role in building prototypes, conducting tests, preparingengineering equipment, and troubleshooting mechanical systems throughout theproduct development lifecycle.
This role is ideal for a practical technician with strong mechanicalaptitude who enjoys turning engineering concepts into working prototypes andcontributing directly to the development of cutting-edge products.
KeyResponsibilities
- Supportengineers in the development, assembly, and testing of new products andprototype systems.
- Build,modify, and maintain mechanical prototypes, fixtures, test rigs, andlaboratory equipment.
- Assistwith mechanical design verification and validation activities.
- Assembleprecision mechanical components, assemblies, and electromechanicalsystems.
- Conductperformance, durability, environmental, and functional testing ofmechanical products and subsystems.
- Installinstrumentation and sensors to support engineering testing and datacollection.
- Performfault finding, root cause analysis, and corrective actions on prototypeand development hardware.
- Supportthe preparation, operation, and maintenance of engineering test facilitiesand equipment.
- Readand interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technicalspecifications.
- Assistwith the fabrication, machining, modification, and fitting of prototypecomponents.
- Accuratelyrecord test results and build data and maintain engineering documentation.
- Workwith engineering teams to identify opportunities for product improvementand increased reliability.
- Supportprototype build activities, design reviews, and development programmes.
- Ensurecompliance with health, safety, quality, and laboratory procedures.
- Maintainan organised, safe, and efficient workshop and laboratory environment.
Requirements
RequiredQualifications & Experience
- ONC/HNC,Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3+, or equivalent qualification in MechanicalEngineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronic, or a relateddiscipline.
- Experienceworking in a mechanical engineering, R&D, product development,manufacturing, or testing environment.
- Hands-onexperience assembling and testing mechanical or electromechanical systems.
- Abilityto read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, andtechnical documentation.
- Competencein the use of workshop tools, measuring equipment, and testinstrumentation.
- Practicalexperience with mechanical assembly, fitting, and troubleshootingtechniques.
- Strongattention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Goodorganisational and communication skills.
- Abilityto work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinaryengineering team.
- Experiencesupporting the development of motors, propulsion systems, rotatingmachinery, or powertrain products.
- Familiaritywith CAD software and engineering drawing packages.
- Experienceusing precision measurement equipment such as micrometres, verniers, CMMs,and dial indicators.
- Basicmachining skills including drilling, and fabrication.
- Knowledgeof materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques.
- Experiencewith environmental, vibration, thermal, or endurance testing.
- Exposureto aerospace, automotive, industrial, robotics, or electrificationsectors.
- Understandingof design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
