EPRI is looking for a Transmission & Distribution Sr. Technical Leader to provide technical leadership within the Transmission & Distribution Infrastructure organization, supporting research, development, and deployment of technologies that enhance the performance, capacity, reliability, and resilience of transmission and distribution systems. This role is fully remote and works across a geographically distributed organization, with regular engagement of U.S. and international stakeholders, including UK‐based transmission and distribution utilities.
The position requires deep technical expertise, leadership of applied research initiatives, and the ability to build trusted technical relationships across utilities, manufacturers, and industry organizations.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership & Expertise
- Serve as a recognized technical authority in one or more transmission and distribution infrastructure focus areas (e.g., overhead conductors and hardware, advanced conductors, grid modernization, asset performance, system capacity and resilience).
- Develop technical frameworks, methodologies, and guidance supporting utility planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Provide technical peer review to ensure analytical rigor, consistency with industry standards, and practical applicability.
- Research & Program Execution
- Lead or co‐lead complex, multi‐year research initiatives, providing technical direction from concept development through delivery.
- Develop and maintain research roadmaps aligned with utility needs and organizational strategy.
- Coordinate with project managers to deliver work within approved scope, schedule, and budget.
- Stakeholder & International Engagement
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with UK‐based transmission and distribution utilities, national grid operators, and affiliated organizations to support collaborative research, technology validation, and knowledge exchange.
- Engage with U.S. and international utilities, manufacturers, contractors, consultants, laboratories, and academic partners in a distributed, remote environment.
- Lead or support virtual and in‐person technical workshops, advisory meetings, and collaborative forums.
- Represent the organization in relevant industry working groups and standards bodies (e.g., IEEE, CIGRÉ, ASTM, IEC), including participation in UK and European technical forums as appropriate.
- Technical Communication
- Author and review technical reports, white papers, specifications, and executive summaries.
- Develop presentation materials tailored to engineering, management, and executive audiences.
- Translate research outcomes into clear, actionable insights for utilities across different regulatory and operational contexts, including U.S. and UK frameworks.
- Team Support
- Contribute to building internal technical capability and institutional knowledge across a remote, collaborative organization.

These include the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Part 810 nuclear export regulations, and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
