Overview
Globally, EPIQ is one of the largest independent providers of in-house and outsourced legal services and technology solutions. We have established service centres in major legal markets and maintain a client list that includes global corporations, government bodies and leading law firms. EPIQ provides discovery and document review services, legal business process outsourcing, court room services and facilities management. We continually introduce new innovative technological solutions and seek high-calibre individuals to join our workforce.
We are seeking a number of London-based Speech-to-Text Editors to join our Court Reporting Legal Services team as Independent Contractors. You will edit, proofread and check for accuracy legal transcripts produced by realtime speech recognition software to ensure final transcripts are of exceptional quality and adhere to Epiq client style requirements.
The work covers a wide variety of legal hearings such as litigations, arbitrations, disciplinary hearings, court evidence, judgments and witness statements. The role can be flexible with onsite attendance in London courts and opportunities to edit remotely from home on chosen days, depending on availability and business needs. There are travel opportunities both within and outside the UK by prior agreement.
An excellent grasp of the English language with strong spelling, punctuation and grammar, and a proven eye for detail, are essential for this role. You must be able to focus for extended periods while editing transcripts against the audio in realtime.
You should be computer literate, adept with new technology and have an aptitude for using automated speech recognition editing software and shortcuts. A fast broadband connection, good quality headphones and a second monitor are required.
You will receive comprehensive training in realtime speech recognition software and editing skills remotely from 9am to 5pm over 4β6 weeks, with regular feedback from experienced Speech-To-Text trainers to help you achieve high accuracy and meet transcript delivery deadlines. An Epiq laptop with the necessary software and licences will be provided for training and subsequent assignments.
Upon successful completion of training, you may claim a training fee subject to agreed terms. After training you will work as part of a team of STT Editors to produce daily transcripts and meet client deadlines. There is a competence-based progression scheme and the potential to increase earnings as you gain experience.
A legal background and familiarity with copy typing or audio transcription are well-regarded but not essential. If you are a quick learner with strong long-term availability and an interest in the legal field as a freelancer, we would like to hear from you.
Shortlisted candidates will undertake online English, editing and typing assessments.
Please note this is a self-employed role.
