Epic Partners delivers targeted, meaningful support to young people who are no longer in mainstream education. Our Alternative Provision offers a fresh start for students who have experienced disruption or exclusion—many of whom have complex needs, and all of whom deserve someone who believes in them. We build structure, trust, and aspiration into each day to help them move forward with confidence.

Location: Epic Partners Alternative Provision, Nottingham. Hours: Part-Time (Term Time Only), 30 hours per week. Salary: Competitive, based on experience.

The Learning Mentor will work as part of the Epic Partners Alternative Provision Programme, supporting Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils who are unable to access mainstream education full-time. They will take a leading role in delivering enjoyable, safe, and meaningful programmes that support behaviour regulation, confidence, and personal growth, while embedding Epic Partners’ values and the Epic Pathway throughout all aspects of delivery.

Pupils may present with SEMH needs, SEND, trauma, behavioural challenges, or significant barriers to learning. The role focuses on re-engaging pupils in education, supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour, and delivering a high-quality personal development offer through mentoring, PSHE, ASDAN Lifestyle Challenges, and sport and physical activity.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong, positive, and consistent relationships with KS2 and KS3 pupils
  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group mentoring to support emotional regulation, engagement, and confidence
  • Act as a positive role model, maintaining clear boundaries, routines, and high expectations

PSHE and Personal Development

  • Plan, develop, and deliver an age-appropriate PSHE and personal development programme aligned with statutory guidance and Epic Partners’ ethos
  • Adapt delivery to meet individual needs, developmental stages, and EHCP outcomes where applicable

Epic Pathway–Aligned Delivery

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate activities aligned to the Epic Pathway, supporting pupils to develop awareness, belonging, identity, communication, emotional control, positive behaviour, respect, responsibility, growth mindset, future focus, giving back, and being epic
  • Embed Epic Pathway values consistently across mentoring, PSHE, ASDAN, sport, and enrichment activities
  • Support pupils to reflect on learning, recognise progress, and celebrate achievements
  • Deliver ASDAN Lifestyle Challenges appropriate for KS2 and KS3 pupils
  • Support pupils to complete challenges, gather evidence, and reflect on progress
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to quality assurance processes

Sport, Physical Activity and Enrichment

  • Support sports, physical activity, and outdoor learning sessions
  • Use physical activity to promote engagement, teamwork, resilience, and behaviour regulation
  • Support Sport & Activity Coaches in delivering high-quality sessions
  • Ensure activities are inclusive, safe, and supported by appropriate risk assessments

Behaviour, Wellbeing and Safeguarding

  • Support individual behaviour and support plans using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • De-escalate challenging situations calmly and consistently
  • Monitor pupil wellbeing and follow Epic Partners’ safeguarding procedures at all times

Attendance, Engagement and Transitions

  • Promote improved attendance, punctuality, and engagement
  • Support transitions within the provision and reintegration planning where appropriate

Partnership Working and Outreach

  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers, schools, local authorities, and external professionals
  • Build relationships with local agencies to support project delivery
  • Support outreach activity including parent engagement, school visits, and assemblies

Leadership, Support and Development

  • Support young leaders, apprentices, mentors, and coaches to develop their skills and confidence
  • Contribute to the development of resources and session plans
  • Attend training, meetings, and performance development sessions as required

Administration and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of mentoring, PSHE delivery, ASDAN progress, and activities
  • Complete reports and paperwork to a high standard
  • Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and data protection requirements

About You

Experience

  • Working with KS2 and/or KS3 pupils, ideally within Alternative Provision or similar settings
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and use of CPOMS
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs, SEND, or behavioural challenges
  • Experience planning or delivering PSHE or personal development programmes
  • Confidence supporting and delivering sports and physical activities
  • Strong understanding of child development and emotional wellbeing
  • Calm, resilient, flexible approach to behaviour support
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Experience working in Alternative Provision setting
  • Coaching or sports-related qualifications
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and restorative practice
  • Good IT skills, including use of digital systems and social media
