What You\'ll Do

Epic Games is seeking a Tech Art Lead to join our Fortnite team. In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between art and technology, developing high-quality materials and optimizing content across multiple platforms. You’ll work closely with artists, engineers, and designers to push visual fidelity while ensuring smooth performance, using your expertise in materials, environments, and Unreal Engine to bring Fortnite’s landscape and biomes to life.

In this role, you will

  • Create complex materials for environments and other gameplay items (weapons, vehicles)
  • Diagnose performance and tooling/automation opportunities across various disciplines and deploy Tech Artists to implement them
  • Collaborate with gameplay developers, artists, and other team members to deliver stellar visuals for each map
  • Work with level designers and artists to optimize content across PC, console, and mobile platforms
  • Work with a team and own features from concept to ship

What we\'re looking for

  • Scripting experience: Blueprint or other visual programming language
  • Expert level understanding of PBR principles and material editors
  • Experience with RVT and related methods to sample it across the game
  • Experience authoring lighting systems using Day Sequencer, Sky Atmosphere, and volumetric clouds
  • Ability to populate landscapes with foliage dynamically with PCG or equivalent in editor tech
  • A strong portfolio showcasing executed landscape biomes, foliage, and atmospherics—gameplay assets are a plus
  • Experience managing/supervising a team of technical artists
  • Deep expertise in Unreal Engine 5
  • Ability to work closely with lighting and art directors to drive visuals throughout the game
  • Experience shipping the same project simultaneously on PC, console, and mobile platforms
