Overview
The overall purpose of the role of Policy and Public Affairs Officer should be to:
- Lead the implementation of the EPIC trade association strategy that has been agreed by the Management Committee.
- Network, engage and work with Government and other stakeholders to lobby, influence and contribute to policy direction, legislation and regulatory standards.
- Act as a spokesperson and external figurehead for EPIC: represent EPIC on external consultative bodies and industry meetings; advocate and promote the benefits of PIR panels.
Core accountabilities
- Actively seek out opportunities to: promote the work of EPIC to stakeholders; participate in Government and UK and EU industry meetings, seminars and think tanks; lead innovative and challenging discussions with stakeholders on the use of PIR products in construction; promote best practice and competency in the use of PIR insulated panels.
- Facilitate and coordinate EPIC members’ contribution to: development and delivery of an annual business plan; solving problems and making decisions that require their collective input on strategic issues; agreed areas of work/sub committees that support the implementation of the plan.
- Manage internal communication and information for members, ensuring that this is strategic, filtered and succinct.
- Provide unbiased support to EPIC members ensuring that they are: provided with up-to-date information on technical issues, legislation, regulations and standards; aware of the implications of change; receiving the benefits they expect from their membership.

Skills and experience
- Breadth and depth of technical knowledge in the construction industry. Preferred areas of expertise: sustainability and/or fire standards.
- Familiar with the world of industry associations.
- Able to network, develop relationships with, and influence internal and external stakeholders in the UK and EU.
- Credible and authoritative communicator and a confident public speaker.
- Worked at a senior management level.
- Able to work collaboratively and flexibly in diverse and challenging situations.
- Have competent IT skills (for communication, reports and presentations).

Job details
Applicants must be able to commit to the equivalent of 5-8 days’ work per month. Note that a level of flexibility is required due to the nature of the role. The role will require candidates to have suitable provisions for working remotely as there is no set base. EPIC members are across the UK, with some association meetings and events being in London. EPIC member meetings often take place in Stockport. Fee is negotiable and will be dependent upon level of experience.
About EPIC
EPIC, established in 1991 to represent the metal faced PIR-cored insulated panel industry in the UK, provides technical information and regulatory guidance for specifiers and building specialists. It is the main dissemination service for issues relating to insulated panels used in construction. It is managed by a committee which consists of a Board of Directors and a Management Committee, all of whom are representatives from the membership organisations.
