Engineering Surveyor (UAS & Survey) Nationwide

Oct 19, 2026

The Engineering Surveyor plays a key role in delivering accurate UAS and ground survey data to EPC-UK customers across the UK, supporting safe and efficient blasting, production monitoring and stock control.

Working closely with the Explosive Engineering Manager, shotfirers, blast engineers and customer quarry managers, the postholder will plan and carry out UAV and conventional surveys, including face profiling, pre- and post-blast surveys, drill pattern setting out, volumetrics and 3D site modelling.

The role requires a technically capable and highly organised individual with excellent attention to detail, a safety-first approach and the ability to manage a varied national diary with minimal supervision, acting as an ambassador for EPC-UK with customers and colleagues.

Principal Accountabilities:UAS Operations

  • Plan and fly UAV surveys for face profiling, pre- and post-blast surveys, stockpile volumetrics and full-site 3D mapping.
  • Complete flight planning, site and airspace risk assessments and operational logs in line with CAA requirements.
  • Maintain, calibrate and keep records for UAVs, batteries, sensors and RTK equipment.
  • Keep pilot qualifications, operator registration and insurance requirements current.
  • Establish and maintain survey control using GNSS / RTK and total station.
  • Set out drill patterns and verify as-drilled positions against blast designs.
  • Validate UAS data against ground control and conventional survey methods.

Data Processing & Reporting

  • Process survey data into face profiles, burden analysis, volumes and surface models.
  • Produce clear, accurate reports and drawings to agreed deadlines, in formats that feed blast design software and customer systems.

Customer & Team Support

  • Act as a point of contact for customer quarry managers on survey matters.
  • Support shotfirers and blast engineers with survey input to blast design and post-blast review.
  • Train and mentor colleagues and UAS pilots in survey methods and equipment.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Work in full compliance with the Quarries Regulations 1999, customer site rules and EPC-UK safety procedures.
  • Observe blast exclusion zones and complete risk assessments and method statements for all survey and flight activities.
  • Participate in site safety briefings and toolbox talks, and report hazards and near misses promptly.

Qualifications/Education required:

  • HNC / HND or degree in Surveying, Geomatics or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience), and a Full UK Driving Licence.
  • GVC (or A2 CofC with willingness to gain GVC).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Engineering or Land Surveyor.
  • Commercial UAV survey operations and photogrammetry processing (e.g. Pix4D, Propeller, Agisoft).
  • GNSS / RTK and total station survey, and CAD / survey software (e.g. AutoCAD, 12d, Trimble Business Center).
  • CICES or RICS membership (or working towards), SSSTS or equivalent, and First Aid at Work.
  • Survey experience in quarrying, mining or drill and blast, including face profiling and laser scanning.
  • Experience of fixed-wing VTOL and RTK / PPK UAS platforms.
