An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Engineering Graduate (EC&I) to join the NI Engineering team in Northern Ireland, based at both EP Kilroot and EP Ballylumford Power Stations. The role will be site-based but will include travel to other EPUKI sites or supplier locations as necessary. The successful graduate placement will provide technical support to the Engineering team.
Given the current environment in which the Ballylumford and Kilroot plant operates, the Engineering teams are supporting several key projects and outages aimed at improving the reliability and safety of operations, and addressing key technical issues that have arisen through flexible operation. The key focus of this role is to assist the site Engineers in the development and delivery of outages and critical plant improvements aimed at improving site reliability and safe operation.
Key ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Lead Engineer (C&I), the key deliverables require the graduate to:
- Support scope preparation and execution during planned and unplanned outages.
- Deliver EC&I improvement projects inside and outside of planned outages.
- Manage and deliver individual work packages within and outside of the outage.
- Develop a criticality matrix, scoring all EPNI DCS, Protection, Electrical systems.
- Review spares holding for key electrical and control systems taking into account obsolescence and product lifecycles.
- Assist with compliance against statutory requirements (e.g. DSEAR, minimum engineering standards, Management of Change etc).
By undertaking this placement, the successful candidate will gain robust experience in the following areas:
- Major capital project development and delivery.
- Engineering and Production team activities on a large Combined Cycle Gas Fired Power Station.
- Understanding of the commercial drivers and statutory compliance requirements impacting large scale thermal generation plants.
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
- Appreciation and interpretation of logic within plant Distributed Control System.
- Plant maintenance and RCM techniques/principles.
- Exposure to senior management through the provision of project status briefings.
- Operational data analysis.
- Exposure to complex Electrical and control issues, fault finding and problem solving.
- Working with contractors.
- Technical Incident Investigations, Root Cause Analysis and Process Safety.
- Build a portfolio of evidence and skills for working towards Chartered Status.
Background Experience of power plant or similar industrial experience (desirable). Good understanding of Combined Cycle Gas Fire Power Plants (desirable).
