EPUKI is looking for a motivated and hands-on Production Apprentice to join the team at EP Langage Power Station and develop into one of the next generation of skilled Production Technicians. Part of EPUKI, Langage Power Station was built in 2010 and is the baby brother of our fleet. Its high-pressure systems and modern technology mean the station gives market leading efficiency to the National Grid and can offer flexible energy generation. So, when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, Langage is ready to fill the gap making sure we all stay powered. Langage is an important part of the energy supply for the UK.

Langage has two gas turbines, each with a heat recovery steam generator powering a steam turbine. When it was built, Langage was one of the highest efficiency air-cooled combined cycle plants in the world.

About the Apprenticeship

This is a 4-year Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) programme delivered in partnership with City College Plymouth.

  • Year 1: Full-time study at college
  • Years 2–4: On-site training at Langage Power Station with day release for further study
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification (equivalent to 2 A-levels)
  • Earn a salary while you train

By the end of your multi-discipline apprenticeship, you’ll have earned a Level 3 BTEC Apprenticeship in Mechatronics, and an HNC.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Production Apprentice, you’ll gain real-world experience working on a modern Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. Day to day you’ll be learning how to operate and maintain the station, including:

  • Learning to operate and inspect equipment across the station (such as pumps, motors, high and low voltage electrical systems, gas/steam turbines)
  • Learning how to plan maintenance work, complete risk assessments and Health & Safety documents
  • Communicating with the other departments that work on site such as engineering and maintenance

The production team are the beating heart of a power station, keeping everything working in sync. You’ll learn what drives the station when it generates electricity, and what drives it when it doesn’t. You’ll also learn how to optimise both these times to either maximise our income or plan maintenance work that makes use of the station not running.

The demand for electricity is increasing, and while the energy industry is changing, the demand for talented people to take over in the future hasn’t. A career in energy is a career with purpose, one that you can be proud of and one that has a critical impact on every person’s life.

You’ll learn to:

  • Operate and maintain plant equipment safely and efficiently
  • Work on systems including valves, pumps, motors, generators, and gas turbines
  • Support the delivery of reliable power generation
  • Assist with maintenance planning, risk assessments, and outage activities
  • Develop skills across: Electrical, Mechanical, Controls & Instrumentation

You’ll be part of a supportive Production team, contributing to performance targets while learning industry best practices.
