About Eolas

Accessing medical knowledge rapidly and easily at the point of care is still very difficult for healthcare professionals. Eolas Medical is transforming how critical medical knowledge is accessed at the point of care. We have a vision where every healthcare professional can instantly access the context specific knowledge they need to deliver safe, effective care. Designed and developed by doctors, the platform aggregates and indexes tens of thousands of items of medical content, enabling rapid and accurate decision-making. It's currently being used by hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals globally, over 85% of acute NHS hospitals, 40% of all doctors in Ireland and also used in world leading institutions in the US including Stanford Healthcare, Mass General and Boston Children's Hospital.

We're now hiring another Clinician Engineer to work alongside a team of doctors helping build the next generation of AI powered clinical knowledge tools. This position has a broad scope, accepting applications from all levels of experience, i.e from minimal software development experience to the world's best clinician turned engineer.

The Role - Clinician Engineer (Clinical + Full Stack Engineering)

This is a rare hybrid role for doctors who are passionate about technology, problem-solving, and building real tools that dramatically improve clinical workflows. You will bring your clinical understanding into every product decision, while learning (or expanding) real engineering capability. You will help design, build, and ship features used directly by frontline clinicians including our next-generation AI-powered knowledge retrieval tools.

We welcome a broad spectrum of experience:

  • Doctors with strong clinical background and early-stage engineering skills who are eager to learn. You'll receive close mentorship, structured training, and opportunities to contribute quickly.
  • Highly experienced clinician-engineers capable of contributing as senior full-stack or backend engineers from day one. You'll directly shape system architecture, product direction, and clinical tooling design. Your clinical intuition will be just as valuable as your engineering output. This is a role where both skill sets matter equally.

We are a cloud-native, modern, TypeScript-first platform. Experience with any of the following is a bonus, you do not need all of them:

  • AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, S3, OpenSearch)
  • Node.js / TypeScript
  • Python
  • Serverless architecture & microservices
  • Cloud security & compliance (HIPAA / GDPR / NHS DTAC)
  • Frontend
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind
  • LLM-powered features
  • RAG pipelines (embedding models, chunking strategies, semantic search)
  • Evaluation frameworks for safe medical AI responses

If you don't know these yet, that's fine. We will teach you.

What You'll Do

Depending on your experience, you will contribute to some or all of the following:

  • Product & Clinical Problem Solving
  • Translate real clinical workflows into intuitive product experiences.
  • Help design features that clinicians will actually use under pressure.
  • Work closely with doctors, engineers, and leadership to shape product direction.
  • Full-Stack or Backend Engineering
    • Build and ship cloud-first features using TypeScript/Node.js, React/Next.js, and AWS.
    • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and deploy serverless services.
    • Help architect systems that scale to hundreds of thousands of clinicians.
  • AI & Clinical Knowledge Retrieval
    • Build RAG workflows that safely surface medical knowledge.
    • Develop clinical document ingestion pipelines that process PDFs, protocols, and policies.
    • Validate AI-generated outputs with clinical context and domain expertise.
  • Quality, Safety & Clinical Integrity
    • Ensure that what we build is clinically safe, defensible, and high-impact.
    • Bring frontline intuition to technical decisions that will affect patient care.
  • Learning & Growth
    • For early-stage engineers: Receive structured training in software engineering, cloud systems, and AI tooling. Pair program with senior engineers, complete real projects, and grow rapidly.
    • For experienced engineers: Lead projects, contribute to architecture, mentor others, and shape the technical roadmap.

    Who We're Looking For

    • Strong clinical background with deep understanding of real-world workflows.
    • A product mindset: you obsess over usability and solving real clinician problems.
    • Genuine passion for technology, engineering, and learning new skills.
    • Ability to think pragmatically and deliver high-quality, reliable solutions.
    • Curiosity, humility, and a desire to build the future of clinical decision support.

    Nice to Have

    • Understanding of cloud systems (AWS preferred).
    • Familiarity with LLMs, embeddings, or semantic search.
    • A portfolio of side projects, tools, or apps you've built (clinical or not).
    • Experience in a startup or fast-moving environment.

    For Senior-Level Candidates

    • 3–7+ years engineering experience (before or after your clinical career).
    • Ability to independently architect and build production systems or if frontend oriented have the ability to lead front end development using React.
    • Experience with serverless systems, distributed architectures, or AI pipelines.
    • Leadership experience or mentoring junior engineer-clinicians.

    Why Join Eolas Medical

This is not a normal job. You will help shape how AI is safely used in frontline healthcare - globally. You will work with a small, mission-driven group of clinician-engineers. You will join at a pivotal moment as we scale from a lean team to a global organisation. You won't just write code: your work will directly influence how doctors treat patients every day. You will not be one engineer among many. You will be someone who fundamentally shapes the future of Eolas Medical — and of clinical decision-making itself.
