We are recruiting for a skilled and ambitious Gas Engineer to join a well-established maintenance and refurbishment company. The business is growing massively and is now looking for the right candidate to spearhead and lead their brand-new Gas division.
Working primarily across care homes and schools, you will be responsible for gas maintenance, compliance, and repairs. Please note - they are currently seeking to become a Gas Safe Registered company. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is already Commercially Gas Safe registered, OR a strong Domestic Gas Safe registered engineer whom the company will fund through a 1-week intensive changeover course (CODNCO1) to achieve their commercial certifications.
This is not a standard construction site role. We need a professional who combines technical excellence with the soft skills required to work in occupied homes among vulnerable residents. You will often work in resident rooms and communal areas, requiring a high level of discretion, cleanliness, and a high standard of customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Department Leadership: Act as the lead engineer to get their gas division off the ground, ensuring all work meets Gas Safe standards to help the business achieve its company-wide registration.
- Maintenance & Repair: Carry out reactive repairs, servicing, and fault finding on heating and gas systems within educational and care facilities.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all gas installations and appliances are safe, compliant, and operating efficiently, issuing certificates where qualified.
- Travel & Operations: Daily travel to varied sites throughout Yorkshire and surrounding counties is required. You will report to the Boroughbridge office for briefings/materials, with occasional overnight stays for distant jobs (allowance provided).
Because this role involves sensitive environments, your "bedside manner" is just as important as your technical skill. You must be reliable, hardworking, and take pride in providing quality workmanship while working quietly and respectfully around elderly residents. You will also need the commercial mindset and ambition to help build a department from the ground up.
Requirements:- Gas Safe Registration: Must be Domestic Gas Safe registered (with a willingness to undertake a funded commercial changeover course) OR already hold Commercial Gas Certifications (e.g., COCN1).
- Experience: Proven background in gas servicing, fault-finding, and heating maintenance.
- DBS: Must hold or be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
- Driving: Full UK Driving Licence.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Attractive Package: £20-£22 per hour with weekly pay cycles, plus highly lucrative on-call bonuses (£100 standby + £100 per call out).
- Equipment: Company van and fuel card provided.
- Growth: Full funding for your Domestic to Commercial changeover course, plus ongoing training and development.
- Security: A long-term, secure position within a supportive and growing team.
- Benefits: 28 days holiday (including Bank Holidays) and a pension scheme.
If you take pride in your craft and want to join a professional team, we’d love to hear from you.
