A Fantastic Opportunity: Quantity Surveyor
SP Electricity North West is looking for a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our team and provide expert commercial and contractual support across a diverse portfolio of projects.
You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered in line with contractual obligations, internal controls, and industry standards.
What you'll be doing
- Manage post-contract commercial activities across multiple projects, maintaining robust commercial governance and assurance over NEC, JCT and bespoke contracts.
- Contribute to business performance by supporting effective contract management, including change control, variations and contract modifications, ensuring delivery aligns with agreed business objectives and plans.
- Support Project Managers with forecasting, budget management and cost control, applying commercial expertise to assess works and identify value and efficiency opportunities.
- Assist project teams in developing budget estimates for project approvals using cost data, schedule of rates and recognised measurement methodologies.
- Support the identification, assessment and mitigation of project risks and costs, ensuring alignment with organisational risk management processes.
- Undertake regular site visits to monitor project progress, review contractor performance, validate costs and compensation events/variations, identify early warnings and maintain relevant risk registers with appropriate mitigation actions.
- Collaborate with Procurement and project stakeholders to advise on suitable procurement and contracting strategies, supporting tender evaluations and the delivery of cost-effective outcomes.
- Manage mini-competition and tendering activities for non-framework projects from project inception through to contract award, ensuring compliance with internal governance and procurement requirements.
What you’ll need
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant qualification and/or experience.
- Relevant experience within the construction, infrastructure, utilities or a related industry.
- Experience of cost management, cost value reconciliation (CVR), forecasting and financial reporting.
- Experience of administering and managing contracts, including standard forms such as NEC and JCT.
- Ability to manage contract changes, variations and differing interpretations of contractual requirements in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience of SAP.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to travel to project and operational sites where required for the role.
- Chartered status, or progress towards professional membership/accreditation (e. g. RICS, CIOB or CICES), is desirable.
