A Fantastic Opportunity: Design Engineer
As a Design Engineer you will be required to have a high level of technical expertise, skills and knowledge to produce high quality design and quotations for new and modified connections whilst providing excellent customer service. In addition to this you will need to demonstrate the ability to manage workloads to meet regulatory standards and customer expectations, adapt to business changes and identify the training needs of less experienced colleagues to deliver or arrange training. You will ensure designs are safe and minimum cost solutions in accordance with Electricity North West Licence Conditions, Common Connections Charging Methodology and Electricity North West Policy and Standards of compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Be able to assist customers in making buying decisions;
- Display a strong passion of standing out to customers by your quality of service;
- Willing to take the lead on improvement initiatives and drive changes through to a successful conclusion;
- Act as a mentor for less experienced staff;
- Be self driven and have the ability to work under pressure to meet relevant business / regulatory targets;
- Demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness;
- Willingness to challenge, stretch yourself, continuously learn and grow.
What you'll need:
- HNC (or higher) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
- Strong understanding of LV / 6.6kV / 11kV systems, substations, switchgear, transformers, and protection.
- Experience in electrical engineering design and electricity distribution, including relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Solid knowledge of network components, operations, and design standards/specifications.
- Understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to work effectively in a team.
- Good commercial awareness of the connections market and wider construction industry.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills (written, verbal, and face‑to‑face).
- Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office / IT systems.
