A Fantastic Opportunity: Groundworker
Location: Penrith
Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (12 Months initially)
Working Hours: 0700hrs – 1530hrs daily (40hrs per week)
Starting Salary: £30,102.61
SP ENWS Groundworkers are fundamental to the Electrictricity Distribution industry, Ensuring all Substation sites are safe for Authorised SP ENW employees to carry out work within Sites owned and Maintained by SP ENW. As a groundworker, you will be responsible for the following;
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete overhead line surveys and post fault inspections as required:
- Carry out Overhead High Voltage Line Patrols to identify any Insulator and clearance issues and report anything that could be deemed as causing a fault on the circuit.
- Site Clearance & Maintenance: Clearing & Maintain vegetation at SP ENWL substations and other key sites, removing old debris using authorised tools/equipment. Work predominantly as a lone worker, joining teams when necessary. Respond promptly to customer complaints and vegetation/fly-tipping issues.
- Maintain company vehicle and adhere to cost effective fuel practices.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhering strictly to Health & Safety (HSE) guidelines, reporting hazards.
- Use and care of provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Uphold SP ENW’s positive public image and wear PPE in compliance with safety standards.
- Complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard, meeting daily targets.
- Technical Interpretation: Working from Mobile Device based Apps and following instructions from supervisors.
The successful candidate must, at the start of employment have permission to work in the UK without sponsorship.

- H100 Authorisation
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Brushcutter, Mower, Hedge Cutter Courses (NPTC or Lantra)
- PA1 & PA6 (NPTC)
- Use of heat detector camera
- Use of approved live-pole detection device
- Storm Recconaisance Training and Authorisation
