A Fantastic Opportunity: Design Engineer

To works as part of a team to design the more complex LV and HV overhead line and underground diversion, reinforcement, asset replacement, refurbishment, maintenance, network referrals, and clearance issues on the Electricity North West’s Wood pole, Mural wiring and underground networks.

As part of this team you will be responsible for producing approved designs that meet ENWL policies and industry specifications.

An emphasis will be placed on carrying out overhead line Refurbishment, Maintenance, and Asset replacement projects.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the design phase of network investment, reinforcement, maintenance and refurbishment projects.
  • Coordinate the delivery of design work packages to ensure projects are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Produce and maintain project documentation, including design drawings and technical records where required.
  • Analyse asset and network data to develop practical, constructible design solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with Design Technicians, Work Planners and other colleagues to prioritise and deliver project outcomes.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including utility providers, local authorities and other affected parties, to progress project activities.
  • Prepare and present project proposals and support the approval process.
  • Ensure designs are delivered in line with applicable technical, safety and regulatory requirements.

What you'll need

  • HNC (or equivalent qualification) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in electrical network planning and design from LV up to and including 11k V.
  • Ability to produce HV/LV network designs and technical specifications.
  • Strong ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including working with and analysing large datasets.
  • Competence in CAD or similar engineering drawing software.
  • Experience managing design work to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide technical advice to a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Experience coordinating technical activities or supporting project delivery.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Ability to undertake site visits and surveys, which may involve travelling to remote locations and walking across uneven terrain.
