The Role
The Financial Controller will be responsible for the end‑to‑end accounting, reporting, and compliance activities for the SSW entities, with primary ownership of the UK entity. You will manage a UK‑based accounting team, coordinate with international third‑party providers, and partner closely with U.S.-based Corporate Accounting and FP&A teams. This is a key leadership position with responsibility for statutory reporting, audits, tax compliance, cash forecasting, systems improvement, and continuous process optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the SSW accounting team (5 team members), covering financial accounting, statutory reporting, AP/AR, billing, collections, and treasury.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in line with UK statutory requirements.
- Manage accounting operations for the UK (largest entity using Sage 50) and coordinate with external accounting firms for Hong Kong, India, Germany, and France.
- Review and oversee work prepared by external providers to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across entities.
- Partner with the U.S. Corporate Controller and FP&A teams to analyse financial performance, explain variances against budget and forecast, and support planning activities.
- Lead UK statutory audits and tax compliance (including coordination with auditors and tax advisors); oversee audit and tax processes for other international entities.
- Support the implementation of a new global billing system (planned for March 2026), ensuring appropriate invoice creation, revenue recognition, VAT treatment, AR processes, and process improvements.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, internal controls, and financial systems to ensure strong governance and financial integrity.
- Identify and improve manual or inefficient processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Ensure the timely preparation of cash flow forecasts to support business performance and financial planning.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience managing month‑end close and statutory financial reporting, with exposure to AR/AP, cash management, budgeting, and tax.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) - required.
- Background in public practice (audit) with subsequent in‑house accounting leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial systems expertise.
- Detail‑oriented with excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking capabilities.
- Hands‑on leadership style, comfortable with technical accounting details and journal entries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly.
- Highly collaborative and service‑oriented approach; able to build relationships across Finance, HR, Legal, and commercial teams.
- Supportive people manager focused on coaching, development, and team growth.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a multinational or multi‑entity accounting environment.
- Familiarity with Sage 50.
- Experience supporting finance system implementations or process transformation initiatives.
Annual Salary Range: £100,000- £125,000. This role is a Hybrid role and will require onsite days a few days a month.
