Environment & Sustainability Manager Location: UK, Home-Based Contract: 9-12 Month Maternity Cover Hours: 36 hours per week, across 4 days Salary: £45,000 per annum + £6,000 car allowance or company vehicle Envo Talent is representing an established and growing UK engineering and energy infrastructure business in the appointment of an Environment & Sustainability Manager on a 9-12 month maternity cover contract . This is an opportunity to take ownership of environmental and sustainability activity across a technically driven business delivering high-voltage electrical infrastructure and energy projects nationwide. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance across the business while progressing and implementing sustainability initiatives that support the company's environmental objectives. You will work closely with senior management, project teams, clients and subcontractors, helping to embed environmental best practice throughout both operational and construction activities. The Role As Environment & Sustainability Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of environmental compliance while progressing the company's sustainability strategy. The role combines environmental management, sustainability, auditing, compliance, stakeholder engagement and site-based activity , making it well suited to an experienced environmental professional who enjoys working across both strategic and operational areas. You will work alongside senior management to identify opportunities to improve environmental performance, implement behavioural change and ensure environmental considerations are embedded throughout the business. Key Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, policies, regulations and guidance. Progress the company's Sustainability Strategy and manage its implementation across the business. Work alongside the senior management team to develop environmental and sustainability strategies and improve overall performance. Support the implementation of behavioural change and promote environmental best practice across the workforce. Deliver internal environmental and sustainability training , toolbox talks and environmental briefings. Liaise directly with clients regarding environmental issues, requirements and best practice. Support Project Managers with CDM requirements and the environmental aspects of Construction Phase Plans. Investigate environmental incidents, establish root causes and produce detailed reports with recommendations for improvement. Analyse accident and incident statistics, identify trends and develop appropriate improvement plans. Maintain awareness of environmental issues across operational teams through regular communication, toolbox talks and briefings. Apply knowledge of ISO 14001 and the principles of internal and on-site environmental auditing. Carry out environmental inspections across project sites to monitor performance and compliance. Conduct subcontractor environmental audits and review and approve new subcontractor applications. Ensure subcontractors comply with company environmental and sustainability standards and requirements. Manage company environmental and sustainability accreditations, including annual renewals and external audits. Support and manage external audits to ensure the business continues to meet required standards. Complete environmental and sustainability pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) and annual customer documentation and information updates. Produce quarterly environmental and sustainability newsletters. Organise charity initiatives and manage relationships with charity partners. About You We are looking for an environmental professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to engage people at all levels of an organisation. You will ideally have: Previous experience in an Environmental, Sustainability, Environmental Management or Environmental Compliance role. Experience conducting internal and external environmental audits , including on-site reviews. Knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 and environmental management systems. Experience working within a construction, engineering, infrastructure, utilities or similar operational environment would be advantageous. A genuine passion for environmental improvement and sustainability. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple environmental and sustainability priorities. Good IT skills. A full clean UK driving licence.
