The Role: Envitia is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Security & Intelligence Consulting team. You'll help design and build modern data platforms that enable organisations across Defence, Government and National Security to make faster, better-informed decisions from complex and diverse datasets. Working alongside data scientists, software engineers, architects and consultants, you'll create scalable cloud-native data solutions that support advanced analytics, AI/ML capabilities and operational intelligence systems. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll influence architecture, engineering approaches and the delivery of high-impact data capabilities.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing and developing modern data platforms and pipelines
  • Building scalable batch and streaming data solutions
  • Creating data lakes and cloud-native data architectures
  • Ingesting, transforming and integrating data from multiple sources
  • Supporting analytics, AI and machine learning workloads
  • Implementing DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code practices
  • Optimising performance, reliability and scalability across data services
  • Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to solve complex data challenges

What We're Looking For:

  • Commercial experience delivering Data Engineering solutions
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience of Java or Scala beneficial
  • Experience building large-scale ETL/ELT and data processing pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing technologies
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-native data platforms, particularly within AWS
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD delivery practices
  • Understanding of data lake, data warehouse and modern analytics architectures
  • Ability to work directly with stakeholders and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Desirable Experience:

  • AWS Data Services (Glue, EMR, Lambda, S3, Athena, Redshift)
  • Streaming technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis
  • Data modelling and metadata management
  • AI/ML data pipelines and feature engineering
  • Geospatial, sensor, operational or intelligence-related datasets
  • Experience working within Defence, National Security, Government or other regulated sectors

Security Clearance Requirements: The successful candidate must hold a current high level security clearance.

Location: It is anticipated the role will require up to 80% (4d/wk) onsite working at client location in Cheltenham, London or Manchester.
