The Role: Envitia is looking for a Java Engineer to join our growing Security & Intelligence Consulting team. You'll work on large-scale data and software platforms used within government and national security environments, helping clients transform complex data into actionable intelligence. Working alongside data engineers, architects, DevOps specialists and consultants, you'll design and develop secure, cloud-native applications that support real-world operational outcomes.
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll have direct influence over solution design, engineering decisions and the delivery of modern software systems.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Designing and developing Java applications using modern engineering practices
- Building scalable microservices and REST APIs
- Developing cloud-native solutions using Docker and Kubernetes
- Integrating software with data platforms, analytics systems and AI-enabled capabilities
- Contributing to solution architecture, code reviews and technical decision-making
- Supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevSecOps practices
- Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary delivery teams to solve complex technical challenges
What We're Looking For:
- Commercial experience developing Java applications using Java 11+ and Spring Boot
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and object-oriented design
- Experience building APIs, microservices and distributed systems
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience working within cloud or DevSecOps environments
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Passion for solving complex technical problems and delivering high-quality software
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working with data-intensive applications or analytics platforms
- Exposure to AWS, Azure or other cloud technologies
- Experience within Defence, National Security, Government or other highly regulated environments
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures, streaming technologies or AI/ML-enabled systems

Security Clearance Requirements: The successful candidate must hold a current high level security clearance.
Location: It is anticipated the role will require up to 80% (4d/wk) onsite working at client location in Cheltenham, London or Manchester.
