Envitia is looking for an AI Engineer to join our growing AI team within the Consulting function. In this role, you will design, build and deploy scalable, responsible AI and machine learning solutions that help our UK public sector clients across Defence, Government and Security / Intelligence unlock greater value from their data. This is a hands-on delivery role working across a variety of client engagements, from machine learning and predictive analytics through to cutting-edge Generative AI applications.
You will develop production-ready AI solutions, contribute to the evolution of our MLOps capabilities and reusable accelerators, and help shape innovative proof-of-concepts and client proposals that showcase Envitia's AI expertise.
Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will collaborate closely with data engineers, software engineers, analysts, visualisation specialists and consultants, supported by a developing AI Community of Practice.
- Designing, developing and deploying machine learning and AI solutions to solve complex operational challenges.
- Developing scalable data pipelines and AI services that transform structured and unstructured data into actionable insights.
- Implementing MLOps practices to support model deployment, monitoring, governance and continuous improvement.
- Applying Natural Language Processing (NLP), predictive analytics and decision-support techniques to mission-critical use cases.
- Developing API-driven AI services and integrating AI capabilities into enterprise and operational systems.
- Delivering cloud-native and containerised AI solutions within secure environments.
- Working with clients to identify opportunities for AI adoption and translate business challenges into practical technical solutions.
Design, develop, train and deploy machine learning and AI models, including predictive analytics, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision and Generative AI solutions, to support client mission and business outcomes.
- Build scalable, reusable AI products, accelerators and solution components that can be deployed across multiple client engagements, improving delivery efficiency and consistency.
- Develop and integrate Generative AI and large language model (LLM) capabilities using platforms such as Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI, ensuring solutions are secure, responsible and aligned to client requirements.
- Implement and continuously improve MLOps practices, including model deployment, monitoring, governance, retraining and lifecycle management, to ensure reliable production operation of AI systems.
- Engineer features, datasets and data pipelines across structured and unstructured data sources, working closely with data engineers and analysts to deliver actionable insights.
- Apply responsible AI principles, ensuring fairness, transparency, explainability, security and compliance throughout the AI solution lifecycle.
- Collaborate with consultants, technical specialists and client stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate them into practical, value-driven AI solutions.
- Contribute to technical proposals, demonstrations, proof-of-concepts and thought leadership activities that showcase Envitia's AI capabilities and support business growth.
- Stay current with emerging AI technologies, frameworks and best practices, identifying opportunities to enhance Envitia's capabilities and client offerings.
- Support knowledge sharing, mentoring and capability development across the AI team, wider Consulting function and AI Community of Practice.
Strong Python programming and hands-on experience with core ML/AI libraries (for example scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Practical experience developing, training and evaluating machine learning, NLP and predictive models.
- Experience deploying AI/ML in the cloud, particularly Microsoft Azure (Azure AI/ML, Azure AI Foundry / Azure OpenAI).
- Working knowledge of Generative AI / large language models and prompt engineering applied to practical use cases.
- Understanding of MLOps practices for model deployment, monitoring and lifecycle management.
- Solid data engineering skills across structured and unstructured data, with awareness of responsible AI, data governance and security.
- Exposure to data visualisation (Power BI, Tableau) and rapid front-end prototyping (Streamlit, Flask, Django, Figma).
- Experience working with geospatial data.
- A relevant degree (Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML or related) or equivalent practical experience.
The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SC level security clearance. The role will require travel to our Horsham offices 2 days a month as well as travel to customer sites in the UK when required.
