The Role

At Envitia, we help Defence organisations unlock the value of their data to enable better decision-making, faster operational outcomes and greater mission success.

We're looking for a Defence Solution Architect who can bridge the gap between operational need and technical delivery, translating complex mission challenges into secure, interoperable and scalable solutions.

This is a high-impact role within our Consulting division, where you'll work closely with Defence stakeholders, mission experts, engineering teams and delivery partners to design and integrate capabilities that enable effective data discovery, transformation and exchange across complex environments.

You'll be responsible for creating solution architectures that not only define systems, but demonstrate how data moves, transforms and delivers operational value.

From shaping mission-led architectures and developing data models to defining integration patterns and ensuring alignment with Defence standards, security requirements and enterprise architecture principles, you'll play a key role throughout the solution lifecycle.

You'll contribute to technical assurance, capability development and the successful delivery of innovative Defence solutions from concept through to implementation.

If you're passionate about solving complex Defence challenges, enabling data-driven operations and shaping the future of interoperable military capabilities, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Design and assure end-to-end solution architectures that support experimentation, integration, and Defence data interoperability.
  • Translate operational mission threads, user requirements and experimentation objectives into scalable, secure and deliverable technical solutions.
  • Produce and maintain architectural artefacts, including solution views, data flow diagrams, interface specifications, data models, integration views and decision records.
  • Define integration approaches that enable data discovery, transformation, exchange and exploitation across heterogeneous Defence systems.
  • Work collaboratively with mission engineering, software development, data engineering, experimentation and operational analysis teams to ensure architectural coherence from concept through implementation.
  • Support the definition and assurance of Information Exchange Requirements, interface contracts, non-functional requirements and security constraints.
  • Identify technical risks, interoperability challenges, architectural trade-offs and delivery dependencies, providing clear recommendations to Defence and delivery stakeholders.
  • Support experimentation planning, execution and technical reviews, ensuring lessons learned are captured and fed into future capability development.
  • Ensure solutions align with security, information assurance, Defence standards and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Provide technical leadership in solution reviews and Technical Design Authority forums.
  • Contribute reusable architecture patterns, methods and learning from customer work into Envitia’s wider architecture capability.
  • Ensure solution and data architectures are subject to robust cost and effort estimation, covering design, development, transition, operation, maintenance and exit costs.

Experience Required

  • Experience working within Defence, national security, mission engineering, operational analysis or experimentation environments.
  • Understanding of Defence interoperability, mission data and information exchange, including how data, systems and users connect across complex multi-domain operations.
  • Experience designing secure, scalable and interoperable solution architectures that enable data discovery, integration, transformation and exchange across heterogeneous environments.
  • Ability to develop and interpret mission threads, operational workflows, information exchange requirements and data models that support operational decision-making.
  • Knowledge of solution and enterprise architecture frameworks and modelling approaches such as TOGAF, Archi Mate or similar.
  • Experience translating business, operational, security and technical requirements into coherent end-to-end solution designs.
  • Familiarity with modern technology ecosystems, including cloud platforms (Azure and AWS), APIs, containerisation, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures and COTS integrations.
  • Experience producing architecture artefacts, integration views, data flow models and assurance documentation for complex programmes.
  • Understanding of MOD and Defence standards relating to interoperability, information sharing and secure architecture.
  • Ability to communicate architecture decisions and technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience presenting solution designs to Technical Design Authorities, Design Review Boards or equivalent governance forums.
  • Security Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SC level security clearance, DV preferred.

Location

The role will require travel to our Horsham offices 2 days a month as well as travel to customer sites in the UK when required.

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
