Do you have experience as a Legal Secretary or Assistant? We are delighted to be working with a long-established and well-regarded law firm based in West Sussex that is looking to recruit a Family Legal Assistant to support its busy Family Law department. This is an office-based role within a stable, traditional firm known for its strong client relationships and professional working environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to Family fee earners, assisting with the smooth running of matters and ensuring high standards of client care. This role would suit someone with existing Family law support experience, or a Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary with relevant transferable experience who is comfortable working with sensitive matters and court deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative and secretarial support to Family Law fee earners
  • Opening, managing and closing files, ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Preparing and formatting legal documents and correspondence
  • Assisting with court paperwork and bundle preparation
  • Managing diaries, scheduling appointments, and arranging hearings/meetings
  • Handling client enquiries professionally and confidentially
  • Liaising with courts, counsel and third parties
  • Monitoring deadlines and supporting case progression
  • General administrative duties including scanning, filing and document management

Requirements - MUST HAVE

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary
  • Family law experience preferred but not essential
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident written and verbal communication
  • Discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters
  • Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office and legal case management systems)

Desirable

  • Experience supporting private Family matters
  • Court bundle preparation experience
  • Familiarity with Family Law procedures and timetables

Package

Location: West Sussex (office-based)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
