Job Description
Job Title: Contracts Manager, UK/Spain
Location: London or Madrid + Flexible/Hybrid working
About Envision:
Envision Energy is the only 100% fully integrated OEM for utility-scale energy storage systems. As pioneers in the industry, we manufacture our own cells (AESC), DC storage systems, bi-directional inverters (PCS), transformers, PPC, EMS, and SCADA. We then connect these components seamlessly to construct power plants fuelled by batteries, displacing traditional coal and gas generators. This shift enables sustainable viability for renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
About the role:
The Contract Manager is a member of the European Commercial operations of Envision Energy, focusing primarily on Grid Scale Battery Storage projects, onshore wind projects and customers in Europe. Some work on Green Hydrogen is also anticipated in the future. This position is preferably based within UK (London) or Spain (Madrid) but consideration will be given to excellent candidates in other cities. The role is a customer facing one, so hybrid working with intermittent travel to customer locations across Europe is to be expected.
The Contract Commercial Manager is responsible for managing the contacts that have been signed and handed over to the Project management team for execution. He/ She will lead contractual negotiations post contract signature and work alongside the project director and project manager to manage contractual variations, claims, liquidated damages etc. He/she analyses and assesses project situations and works across the organization to coordinate the overall risk and financial mitigation plans He/she drives the execution of optimized strategies to ensure projects can be delivered on-time and at budget.
Key responsibilities:
- Review of contract documents and implement contract management systems, procedures and processes for effective contract commercial-risk management.
- Work across the organization, demonstrate strong teamwork skills, lead virtual deal teams and coordinate the overall project contract execution strategies, with a focus on the commercial aspects of the project in close cooperation and partnership with the Project manager and other functions such as legal, commercial finance, services and solution engineering.
- Support the front end commercial teams with relevant inputs related to contract & risk Analysis, bid clarifications etc
- Keep front line team informed of relevant contract execution impacts for key accounts.
- Provide comprehensive contract management support from project start-up to closeout, including processing and management of excusable event claims, variation orders and claims entitlements.
- Support the project manager with drafting of contract/ subcontract documents, agreements and contractual notices, memos & correspondence as required.
- Work with global contract management teams to build out effective tools and processes for contract management.
- Lead risk management strategies for projects under execution.
- Work with project financial teams to ensure projects hit their target budgets and outcomes.
- Ensure that contracts are duly performed and closed, with all contractual issues, fully resolved /settled.
- Manage project insurances as per contract requirements to ensure that these are duly complied with and submission, monitoring and settlement of insurance claims are processed in accordance with the policies.
- Support timely collection of cash for projects
- Take informed decisions regarding the project contract, present proposal summaries including a commercial risk and mitigation plan to the risk review board and obtain management approval for all critical items of each transaction.
- Support the project execution team in post contract related modifications related to notices, change /variation orders etc.
- Frequent Business trips within the region are to be foreseen.
Qualification and expertise:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Fluent in English plus at least another European language, in speaking and writing. (Working knowledge of Chinese is a plus)
- Enthusiasm for working with customers
- Legal training is valued
- 10+ years’ work experience and 5+ years’ first-hand exposure in Contract Management roles in large complex infrastructure projects/businesses; EPC projects and Turnkey Power/Substation projects experience will be an advantage.
- Experience in Contract Management, claims preparation and dispute resolution.
- Strong process analysis, problem solving and strategy development skills
- Ability to take critical decisions in the face of limited or conflicting data and under time pressure
- Understanding of project risk management, planning, and controlling.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work intensively during negotiation periods
- Excellent communication skills and confidence with executive level presentations
- Demonstrated teamwork skills and proven leadership skills in virtual project teams
- Ability to manage multiple complex activities simultaneously
- Dedicated to details while keeping the bigger picture in mind
