We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Health and Safety Specialist to support our expanding portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK. You will play a critical role in ensuring health and safety compliance, with a particular focus on electrical safety in Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) environments. This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the UK’s renewable energy transition by fostering a strong culture of safety and compliance across multiple project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety regulations, especially within the energy and construction sectors.
- Conduct regular, independent site inspections, audits, and risk assessments on active BESS projects.
- Develop, implement, and maintain BESS-specific health and safety plans and procedures.
- Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training to employees and contractors.
- Promote best practices in electrical safety, with an emphasis on LV and HV systems.
- Maintain and update safety records including RAMS, audit reports, incident logs, and training records.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to enforce and continuously improve safety performance.
What We're Looking For
Must-Have:
- 5-7 years of relevant EHS experience in the energy or construction sectors.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification).
- In-depth knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and applicable codes of practice.
- Proven background in the energy or construction sectors.
- Demonstrated experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety protocols and practices.
- Ability to design and implement practical safety strategies and site-specific controls.
- Confident in delivering inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions to diverse audiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work effectively alongside contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
Nice to Have (Advantageous)
- Specific experience working on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
- Prior experience in renewable energy sector.
- TechIOSH or working towards CMIOSH status.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation or maintenance.
- First Aid qualification.
- Formal investigation training (e.g., ICAM, TapRooT, or similar).
