KS2 Teaching Assistant - SEMH

Job Description

Envision Education is currently recruiting for a

KS2 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school with a specialist SEN unit. This is a full‑time role working Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm

The successful candidate will work closely with two pupils in Years 4 and 5 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

, providing both emotional and academic support throughout the school day.

  • Year 4 pupil on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

. Both pupils require someone who can build a positive and trusting relationship with them, support emotional regulation and help them remain engaged with their learning.

One of the pupils is particularly creative and enjoys art

, so candidates with an artistic or creative background would be especially well suited to the role and encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to two KS2 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support the Year 5 pupil on Mondays and Fridays and the Year 4 pupil from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Provide both academic and emotional support throughout the school day.
  • Build positive and consistent relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported.
  • Help pupils manage and regulate their emotions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and interests.
  • Use creative activities and approaches to encourage engagement where appropriate.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SEN team to provide consistent support.
  • Monitor pupils' progress and communicate relevant information to teaching staff.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and school policies at all times.

Experience, Training and Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with
  • SEN is highly desirable
  • Experience supporting pupils with

SEMH needs in any year group would be particularly beneficial.

  • Experience within a primary school or similar educational setting is desirable.
  • A creative or art background would be advantageous
  • Patient, nurturing and understanding approach to supporting children.
  • Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Good communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
