Job Description

Envision Education is currently recruiting for 3 SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEMH primary school near Haywards Heath, West Sussex. These are full‑time roles working Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm, paying up to £105 per day, with trials taking place this week and an immediate start for successful candidates.

The school supports boys aged 5-11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism (ASC). Set within a beautiful country setting with extensive outdoor grounds, the school takes a flexible and child‑centred approach to helping pupils thrive both academically and emotionally.

The school is expanding its primary provision and is looking for patient, resilient and proactive Teaching Assistants who can build positive relationships with pupils and provide consistent support throughout the school day.

Please note: Due to the school's rural location and limited public transport, candidates must hold a full driving licence and have access to their own car.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH and Autism.
  • Help pupils access learning and remain positively engaged throughout the school day.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Use calm and consistent behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support children with emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
  • Help maintain a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider SEND team.
  • Follow individual pupil support plans and strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and school policies at all times.

Days and Hours of Work

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:30am - 3:30pm

Experience, Training and Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people is required.
  • SEN, SEMH, Autism or challenging behaviour experience is highly desirable.
  • Patient, resilient and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence and access to your own car - essential.
  • Candidates should ideally live within easy reach of Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Crawley or Horsham due to the school's location.
  • Enhanced DBS covering the child and adult workforce on the Update Service is highly desirable.
  • Candidates without a suitable DBS must be willing to apply for one.
  • Due to the immediate requirement, candidates who already hold the appropriate DBS on the Update Service will be prioritised.
