Job Description
Area: Redditch
Salary: £18p -£20ph Depending on experience
Days: 7.30am – 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30 am to 12.30 pm Friday
Role Purpose
The Toolmaker will be responsible for the manufacture, service, and maintenance of tooling and dies to precise engineering specifications. Working within the Toolroom, this role ensures that all tooling meets quality, cost, and delivery requirements, supporting efficient production operations across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacture & Machining
- Manufacture extrusion, mould, and finish dies from raw materials to engineering drawings.
- Produce single-stage clip tools and associated tooling components.
- Operate a range of Toolroom machinery, including:
- Surface and cylindrical grinders
- Manual milling and turning machines
- CNC milling (3, 4, and 5-axis) with Heidenhain and Winmax controls
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Work to tight tolerances, ensuring all components conform to drawing and specification.
- Inspect own work using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, height gauges, verniers, etc.).
- Contribute to process improvements to enhance tool life, reduce waste, and improve machining efficiency.
- Support the implementation of ISO 9001 quality principles and 5S standards within the Toolroom.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Adhere to all site safety policies, including PPE, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping and organisation within the Toolroom.
- Actively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Toolroom Team Leader and Production Engineers to prioritise workload.
- Share technical expertise and mentor less experienced team members.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement in line with company values.
Experience and Qualifications
- Time-served, apprentice-trained Toolmaker, or minimum of 5 years' experience in a precision Toolroom environment.
- Proven experience setting and operating CNC machine tools.
- Experience within hot metal or heavy manufacturing (automotive/ aerospace preferred).
- Strong understanding of material science, heat treatment, and metallurgy.
- Excellent ability to interpret engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
- Competence in the use of both imperial and metric measuring systems.
- Confident communicator with a proactive, self-driven approach.
- Committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
