An opportunity to join an aerospace engineering business working on safety-critical systems across flight controls, actuation and battery management. You'll take ownership of key safety assessments across the aircraft's development lifecycle, from early hazard analysis through to certification support. Sitting close to the design and integration teams, you'll help shape how safety is built into the product from the outset rather than bolted on afterwards. This is a role for someone who enjoys the technical depth of safety engineering and wants to see their work through to certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs) and System Safety Assessments (SSAs) for systems including Flight Controls, Actuation and Battery Management
  • Perform supporting analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), Particular Risk Assessments (PRA) and Zonal Safety Assessments (ZSA)
  • Develop the aircraft safety case in line with certification and operational requirements
  • Define safety requirements and ensure they're captured, communicated and tracked with design and integration teams
  • Work across engineering disciplines to raise safety awareness and embed it into the product
  • Contribute to certification planning activity
  • Help improve safety processes, tools and documentation over time

The Person

  • Degree or higher qualification in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Established background designing or developing safety-critical systems
  • Strong track record performing aircraft or system-level safety assessments, ideally on flight control, actuation or battery systems
  • Working knowledge of aircraft certification standards and processes
  • Proficient in safety analysis techniques and tools such as Fault Tree, STPA or Reliability Analysis
  • Practical experience with ARP4754A/B and ARP4761/A
  • Able to produce safety documentation to support certification
  • Familiarity with regulations such as SC VTOL.2510 or 23.1309
  • Strong communicator with a collaborative approach to problem solving

Desirable

  • Experience on eVTOL, UAM or rotorcraft platforms
  • Understanding of model-based systems engineering (MBSE), cyber-safety or safety management systems
  • Familiarity with RTCA DO-178C and DO-254

This is a chance to shape the safety case for genuinely novel aircraft systems, working alongside engineers who take safety as seriously as you do. If you want ownership over safety outcomes rather than just sign-off, get in touch.
