This is a rare opportunity created by a planned Managing Director retirement. This senior position offers a clear route into management and future leadership of a successful, growing company. Join a growing specialist engineering consultancy delivering innovative low-carbon heating, cooling, and renewable thermal energy projects across the UK. We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Engineer to lead the design and delivery of heat pump, HVAC, and mechanical building services projects. You will provide technical leadership, manage client relationships, oversee project delivery, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the growth of our design team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead heat pump and HVAC system design from feasibility through detailed design, commissioning, and operational support.
  • Produce and review technical reports, specifications, calculations, layouts, schematics, and plant selections.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for clients and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ensure design quality, compliance, and successful project delivery.
  • Support site surveys, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational optimisation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in mechanical building services, low-carbon energy systems, or geothermal design.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, heat pump technology, hydraulics, thermodynamics, and building services design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent technical communication and client-facing skills.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience in consultancy, construction, commissioning, and team leadership.
  • Knowledge of geothermal and ground source heat pump systems.
