The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in metal additive manufacturing to support the development of advanced manufacturing processes, particularly within binder jetting and sintering technologies.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help establish robust manufacturing capability from prototype through to production, collaborating with both external suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineered components.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical ownership, supplier management and developing new manufacturing capability within an innovative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate and manage external additive manufacturing and fabrication suppliers for prototype and development builds.
- Maintain supplier performance data including capability, quality, lead times and cost.
- Support the specification, installation, commissioning and operation of in-house manufacturing, assembly and inspection equipment.
- Develop and implement quality assurance processes for internally and externally manufactured components.
- Assist with manufacturing scale-up and production planning activities.
- Plan and coordinate mechanical, thermal and material validation testing.
- Develop design-for-manufacture best practice and work closely with engineering teams to optimise component designs.
- Feed manufacturing knowledge back into product development and continuous design improvement.
- Support process development to improve reliability, repeatability and traceability.
- Contribute to research and development programmes and collaborative engineering projects.
- Assist with project planning, manufacturing deliverables and technical reporting.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers where appropriate.
- Support the development of innovative manufacturing technologies and processes.
Requirements
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum of five years\' experience in advanced or additive manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of metal additive manufacturing processes, including binder jetting, powder bed fusion or similar technologies.
- Experience managing external manufacturing suppliers and prototype production.
- Understanding of manufacturing process control, dimensional tolerancing and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of post-processing techniques including sintering, machining and heat treatment.
- Experience of quality inspection and validation methods.
- Excellent organisational, communication and technical documentation skills.
Desirable
- Direct experience with binder jetting technology.
- Experience commissioning or supporting advanced manufacturing equipment.
- Background in thermal component or heat exchanger manufacture.
- Experience establishing or expanding manufacturing facilities.
- Experience within aerospace, automotive or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with recognised industry standards such as DO-160G or equivalent.
