Due to natural succession within the company we are seeking a Head of Electrical Engineering to join this exciting client. The Head of Electrical Engineering provides the discipline lead in all aspects of electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation engineering within the company. The Head of Electrical Engineering will provide technical advice at all levels of the business, managing a small support team, external resources, and design output including distribution network connections, high-voltage and low-voltage electrical installations, control, automation and building management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong focus on health and safety at work across team activities and outputs, including toolbox talks, mandatory training and events, and incident reporting.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards and quality assurance policies and procedures, reflecting Statutory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Manage the workload and performance of direct reports within the electrical engineering team.
  • The personnel and resource management of the team, from recruitment and inductions through to development plans and appraisals.
  • Prepare resource estimates and resource plans, and internal support agreements for project lead approval.
  • Complete engineering design activities from feasibility through to developed design, including system modelling, CAD drawings and specifications, incorporating design risk assessments and design reviews as appropriate.
  • Plan and supervise project design verification, testing and commissioning using internal and external specialist resources as required.
  • Identify and manage appropriate consultant and subcontract engineering services as required to supplement internal resources.
  • Manage consultant and subcontract engineering design delivery acting in an intelligent customer capacity.
  • Collaborate with business development, concept, estimating, mechanical design, commissioning, project management, adoptions, and concession management teams from identification of opportunities through to site operations.
  • Represent the electrical engineering discipline as a member of the business Technical Governance Committee.
  • Conduct incident investigations, identifying root cause and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and maintain appropriate team resources including engineering design tools and technical references.

Role Requirements

  • Chartered Electrical Engineer.
  • Substantial management level experience across the breadth of the electrical engineering field.
  • 12 years plus experience of delivery of industrial and commercial scale electricity and heat generation and distribution projects.
  • Degree qualified in relevant field.
  • Ideally have significant experience of public electricity distribution network connections processes, embedded gas turbine/gas engine combined heat and power plant, and the application of low carbon technologies including heat pumps.
  • Qualifications or experience in working within AUTOCAD environment.
  • Experienced Leader and proven experience of developing a team.
