Dredger Chief Mate
Whitby Harbour Authority operates its own excavator dredger, the 44m Split Hopper Barge, Sandsend. The vessel works in the ports of Whitby and Scarborough and occasionally dredges other UK ports on contract. The Authority is looking for a Temporary Chief Mate to cover a long‑term absence from the vessel, with potential to become a permanent position in the future.
Responsibilities
Act as Second in Command to the Dredging Master and maintain safe operation of the vessel, its equipment and operations. Support day‑time dredging activities, schedule around tidal conditions, and lead external contractual dredging works when required.
Qualifications
Qualified maritime professional with a relevant certificate of competency to act as Mate on a seagoing commercial vessel. Must hold a current ENG1 system certificate. Experience in marine operations on a commercial/professional basis and knowledge of routine vessel and machinery maintenance is desirable. Dredging experience and the ability to operate an excavator are advantageous but not essential; full training will be provided.
