Within the Highways Commissioning we are looking for an enthusiastic, customer focused and experienced person to join the Service, delivering New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Inspections and undertaking Permit Inspections. You will be primarily involved in monitoring utility work on our highway network, to ensure the successful delivery of the Council's duties and responsibilities, as Highway Authority, to maintain the highway and thereby provide a safe and reliable highway network for all users.

The successful applicant will support with the implementation of service improvements and excellent customer care, and work within a team to contribute and achieve required performance targets. You will support our area-based highways maintenance team based at our Willington Depot in the south of the county. You will work closely with other Services within the Highways Division to continually develop service improvement and efficiencies whilst embracing new technologies and best working practices. You will be joining a team of eager and ambitious technicians and engineers and have a manager who is supportive and keen to facilitate your development.

What skills and experience do I need to have?

  • Understanding of the construction of the major elements of an evolved highway network
  • Understanding of material and methods involved in the construction and maintenance of highways
  • Understanding of highway related legislation and associated duties and responsibilities
  • Good IT skills

This role is contractually based at our Willington Highways Depot, but as part of our Modern Ways of Working programme we are currently working on a hybrid basis. There will be an opportunity to discuss future working arrangements at interview.
