Basildon Borough Council is advertising the role of Street Scene Enforcement and Education Officer on behalf of Essex County Council.
Location: Basildon
Salary: £29,799 to £33,360 per annum (inclusive of fringe)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Job Purpose
The successful candidate will investigate environmental crimes, educate residents on waste and recycling, and take action against offenders, dealing with issues such as untaxed and abandoned vehicles, fly-tipping, littering, and commercial waste offences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate environmental offences including fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles, and dog fouling.
- Interview victims, perpetrators, and witnesses.
- Issue fixed penalty notices.
- Prepare prosecution files and provide evidence in court.
- Collaborate with agencies like the Police, DVLA, and Environment Agency.
- Keep updated with relevant legislation.
- Provide excellent customer care and maintain accurate records.
Requirements:
- Experience with environmental offences within a local authority or similar setting.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage conflicts and work within a team.
- Knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related legislation.
- Full manual driving license.
- Successful completion of Police Community Safety Accredited training during employment.
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS and Police vetting.
