This is a new role in the organisation – created to enhance our strategic leadership capacity. Joining the Council’s Corporate Management Team you will play a highly visible leadership role, modelling our organisational values and promoting a One Council approach. You will also represent the Council in a range of external settings – working locally and nationally to promote the best interests of Shetland Islands and ensure our voice helps to shape the decisions that affect our community. In your Depute role, you will support and deputise for the Chief Executive as required.

The role takes the lead on a broad service portfolio that includes the following:

  • Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Transformation, Climate Change & Waste
  • Asset and Property Management Services

As the Council’s Section 95 Officer, it’s essential that whoever takes on this role is a qualified accountant. But alongside that professional expertise, we are looking for wider leadership and management attributes that will enable you to lead, motivate and inspire, drawing on the contribution of others and supporting the professional development of colleagues. Our people are our greatest resource, so it is natural that both these aspects are front and centre for this corporate leadership role.

We are looking for a values-led leader, who is ready to be visible and accountable, with the communication skills and professional presence to foster excellent relationships with elected members, partner organisations and other stakeholders.
