We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Highways Inspection Officer to join us! This is a full‑time, permanent role with hybrid working and a salary of £39,526 - £43,613 per annum.

The Role

  • Managing the team of Highway Inspectors, overseeing daily activities, inspections and budget management.
  • Conducting scheduled and ad‑hoc highway safety inspections (carriageways, footways, car parks, etc.) and accurately recording safety and service defects.
  • Investigating customer enquiries and complaints, ensuring timely resolution and promoting service excellence.
  • Assisting with highway claims, including gathering evidence and attending court if required.
  • Organising and overseeing repair works, ensuring adherence to budget and council responsibilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal, safety and council policies, particularly the Highways Act 1990.

What we are looking for

  • Holder of a Highway Safety Inspection C & G 6033 with Lantra skills card, experience of carrying out highway inspections, and an NRSWA qualification.
  • Ability to work independently in a busy office environment while prioritising and organising a varying workload.
  • Experience leading a team and managing & prioritising workloads.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with all levels of people including dissatisfied customers.
  • Knowledge of planning a street works site, including signing, lighting, guarding and site safety.
