We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Sustainable Transport officer to join us!

This is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working, and a salary of £39,526 - £43,613 per annum.

The role:

Reporting to the Infrastructure Planning Manager, this role will lead on the strategic and operational management of the Highways Development Control Team in its role as the Highway Authority in the planning process and assess developer-led highway works proposals, to deliver corporate objectives and priorities.

Your role will involve:

  • Lead the Highways Development Control team, managing workloads and priorities to meet deadlines and fulfil the Council's statutory Highway Authority responsibilities.
  • Oversee collaboration with Planning, Highways and external consultants to ensure planning applications and highway agreements comply with statutory and local standards, including securing appropriate highway infrastructure contributions.
  • Lead the scoping of Transport Assessments, including commissioning and review of strategic transport modelling outputs.
  • Lead highways responses on major applications, coordinating specialist advice and Public Rights of Way input to meet statutory timescales.
  • Provide advice on legal agreements to secure highway infrastructure, transport improvements and travel plan contributions arising from development.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, with a commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body and evidence of maintaining professional standards and knowledge.
  • Demonstrable experience in line management, with the ability to lead, support and develop teams.
  • Significant experience of highway development control and the planning process, supported by extensive technical knowledge of highway design and construction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively to a range of stakeholders.
