About this opportunity

We are looking to recruit Highways Operatives to our Highways Service. The right candidates will be hard‑working, experienced and committed, as the service we provide continues to grow and develop.

Responsibilities

• Perform highways maintenance and construction work, including highway repair & construction.
• Traffic management on single/dual carriageways.
• Ditch clearing, ground maintenance, minor drainage works, and small civil structure repairs.
• Assist on out‑of‑hours emergency and adverse weather response teams.
• Support Team Leaders in inspecting and repairing the highway network and responding to service requests.

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Relevant experience using plant and equipment associated with the role.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high‑quality work.
• Good communication skills and a customer‑focused service attitude.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to travel throughout Cumbria and surrounding areas.
