Head of Highways & Transport
Redbridge London Borough Council is looking for an experienced local authority transport leader with strong highways and transport engineering credentials to join a new management team driven by ambitious regeneration plans. This role will shape the borough’s transport future, leading significant capital programmes and complex contracts, while minimising disruption to residents and the wider transport network.
Responsibilities
- Set and deliver borough-wide transport and highways strategies.
- Accountable for large‑scale capital programmes and complex contracts that underpin transport delivery.
- Ensure major infrastructure projects are successfully delivered on time and within budget.
- Build and maintain effective partnership working with key London stakeholders.
- Provide operational oversight and assurance to elected members and other stakeholders.
- Lead, manage and modernise a large multidisciplinary service, including the statutory role of Traffic Manager.
- Progress sustainable transport, climate and air quality agendas.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in local authority transport and highways management.
- Demonstrated leadership of large capital programmes and complex contractual portfolios.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership building, particularly with London stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to move between detail and big‑picture perspective.
- Strong people and resources management skills.
- Deep understanding of public and political scrutiny associated with senior transport roles.
- Knowledge of service innovation, technology adoption and value for money delivery.
Salary: £89,037 - £92,538
