We are looking for a Group Engineer to join our team in the Highways Service at either our Honley, Huddersfield or Headlands, Liversedge depots. Kirklees is attracting significant investment into the district, funding major highway infrastructure improvements, upgrade of utility networks including major investment in fibre, new homes and businesses. Highway Operations supports the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in delivering transportation projects.
As Group Engineer, your key responsibilities and duties include:
- Leading day-to-day operations of an operational highways depot comprising about 50 site skilled employees, 15 engineers and other officers.
- Managing the depot in partnership with the Operational Manager for Highway Operations, reporting to the Head of Highways.
- Liaising with and advising various council departments, partners and third parties on highway construction issues, ensuring effective communication.
- Delivering extensive organisational changes and overcoming associated challenges.
Qualifications:
- An appropriate professional or academic qualification related to the post or demonstration of significant experience.
- Experience providing effective leadership, team management and development.
- Extensive experience working in a highway construction environment, including materials, methods, innovation, health and safety practices and project programming.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation in construction.
- Experience with The Working Time Regulations and GB Domestic Drivers’ Rules.
