We are CTOT, Westmorland and Furness Council’s in-house Transport Operational Team, and we are looking to recruit drivers who can operate a minibus with a D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat D driving license entitlement.

Position Details:

  • TERM TIME ONLY
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, split shift basis (approx. 7.30 – 9.30am and 14.30 – 16.30pm)
  • Part-time (up to 25 hours during term time) with potential work during school holidays
  • Contracts: Permanent and casual (zero hours)

Locations:

  • Westmorland and Furness Council, Salthouse Road Depot, Barrow in Furness, LA14 4RD
  • Westmorland and Furness Council, County Hall, Busher Walk, Kendal, LA9 4RQ

Candidate Requirements:

  • Flexible, capable of ensuring passenger safety and care
  • Committed to delivering Home to School transport for mainstream or SEND pupils
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required; full training and uniform provided

The service operates Monday to Friday during term time, with school runs on a split shift basis. We are developing additional work opportunities during the day and potentially during school holidays.

We consider applicants who can work mornings or afternoons on a job-share basis. The hourly rate is £14.36, rising to £14.84 after a satisfactory probationary review, with a pay award pending.

Successful shortlisted candidates will need to pass a driving assessment on the interview day at either Barrow Depot, Sowerby Woods, or Skirsgill Operational Depot, Penrith, Cumbria.

Operations Locations:

  • Barrow: Salthouse Road Depot & Sowerby Woods Depot – minibus/MPV for drivers with D1 (grandfather rights)
  • Kendal: South Lakeland House & Busher Walk – minibus/MPV for drivers with D1 (grandfather rights)
