Overview
In this role you protect and promote the Thames Basin Heaths’ internationally important heathlands by engaging visitors and communities. You work outdoors most days, building positive relationships with dog walkers and families while educating on responsible recreation and wildlife protection. You will organise events and outreach sessions, collaborate with land managers and conservation partners, and help raise awareness about rare ground-nesting birds and other species. This is a hands-on, frontline role that combines outdoor work with community engagement to safeguard precious habitats.
Responsibilities
- Engage with visitors to explain the importance of the heathlands and promote responsible recreation
- Organise events, activities, and pop-up engagement sessions
- Collaborate with land managers, councils, Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, Forestry England, MOD and other partners
- Support wildlife protection through education, engagement, and awareness-raising
- Survey visitors and contribute to social media content and outreach materials
- Deliver engagement activities across the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area
- Create opportunities for children, families and diverse visitors to care about nature
- Represent the partnership at community events and on-site activities
