You will mentor junior staff, contribute to licensing and mitigation planning, and help drive ecological delivery across diverse projects. Responsibilities

  • Lead ecological surveys, including habitat and protected-species assessments
  • Produce clear ecological reports, plans and advice, and QA others' reports
  • Manage standard ecological projects from instruction to completion
  • Plan and coordinate fieldwork with staff and seasonal ecologists
  • Prepare ecological mitigation measures and support licensing
  • Contribute to UKHab surveys and habitat condition assessments; support BNG assessments
  • Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships
  • Prepare quotations and contribute to larger proposals
  • Manage projects to scope, programme and budget; maintain financial records
  • Mentor Assistant Ecologists and share knowledge with peers
  • Collaborate with Ecology, Land Management and Project Management teams
  • Maintain high professional, health and safety standards in field and office

Key requirements

  • Practical experience in ecological survey, assessment and protected-species work
  • Habitat survey and assessment skills (UKHab and habitat condition)
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological practice
  • Experience managing ecological projects or work packages
  • Technical report writing abilities
  • Experience designing routine mitigation and enhancement measures
  • Confidence in client and stakeholder engagement
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
  • At least one protected-species survey licence or equivalent capability
  • Degree in ecology, environmental science or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Full UK driving licence
