Head of Finance / Financial Controller

About the roleJoju operates across EV charging, commercial solar PV, and operations & maintenance. Joju needs a senior finance leader to take ownership of the finance function, strengthen controls, improve reporting, develop the team and provide commercial challenge to the wider business.You’ll report directly to the CEO and act as the senior finance lead across the business, partnering with operational leaders. This is a hands-on role – you’ll be close to the detail on management accounts and cashflow, but you’ll also be the person the operational teams turn to when they need financial input on projects, tenders, and commercial decisions.We’re looking for someone who can combine strong technical accounting with genuine people management, and who isn’t afraid to challenge the business where the numbers don’t stack up.What you’ll be doing & overseeing & reviewingFinancial reporting & controlReview monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary that actually means something to non-finance peopleOwn balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and journalsReview P&L performance and flag risks and opportunities earlyMaintain and improve financial controls across the businessManage and run our stock control processesCashflow & working capitalRun cashflow forecasting and keep it currentStay on top of aged debtors and drive cash collectionManage supplier payments and payment runsGive the CEO and senior team a reliable picture of cash and working capital at all timesPeople managementLead and develop the finance team (three people) – set priorities, review work, and invest in their developmentBe the main point of contact for finance across the businessBuild a team culture where standards are high and people are supportedProject & Commercial FinanceWork closely with project managers to track project profitability and margins across all divisionsProvide financial oversight on live projects and flag issues before they become problemsSupport tenders and commercial decisions with robust financial analysisSystems & Process ImprovementDrive finance automation – reduce manual work and improve the speed and accuracy of reportingImprove / Redesign processes, controls, and how data is used to support decisionsCompliance & AuditOversee VAT returns, CIS, payroll, and statutory reportingLead the year-end audit and manage the relationship with external auditorsKeep us compliant with all financial and regulatory requirementsWhat We’re Looking ForEssentialQualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)Proven experience in a Head of Finance, Financial Controller or number one finance role in a project-based SMEProject accounting experience – this is non-negotiable given the nature of our workExperience with construction industry VAT and CIS requirementsProven people manager who can get the best out of a small teamStrong track record in finance automation and process improvementExperience working alongside project managers and integrating finance into operational workflowsAdvanced Excel skills and sharp attention to detailDesirableExperience with Xero and/or CommusoftBackground in renewable energy or a similar project-based sectorExperience in a growing SME environmentWhy Joju?We’re a growing business in a sector that isn’t slowing down.
