Overview
In this role you will mobilise urban communities to drive positive changes for nature and wildlife. You’ll build authentic relationships, embed community organising practices, and support local leaders to lead action. You work closely with the Community Organising team and BBOWT communications to tell community stories in local voices. The role offers meaningful impact through developing relational power and sustainable outcomes for localities.
Responsibilities
- Build authentic relationships with communities and empower them to win positive changes for nature and wildlife in their localities
- Embed a community organising ethos to sustain gains for nature and wildlife
- Facilitate groups to collaborate on issues that matter to them
- Identify and develop potential local leaders and support their confidence to lead
- Pursue ongoing learning in community organising through formal and informal training and reflective practice
- Collaborate with BBOWT communications to enable communities to tell their stories in their own voices
- Support the embedding of community organising principles across BBOWT
- Perform any other duties as delegated by the Community Organising Manager and Head of Community Organising
Key requirements
- Working knowledge of community organising principles and practice
- Ability to build authentic relationships with diverse audiences including global majority and underserved groups
- Comfortable working independently with groups in various locations
- Active listening to identify outcomes, barriers, and solutions
- Able to identify and develop potential local leaders
- Reflective practitioner able to learn from past actions
- Excellent verbal communication and ability to influence
- Flexible working hours including some evenings and weekends
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Willingness to demonstrate BBOWT values and behaviours
- Current UK valid driving licence or eligible for Access to Work driver support
